Have you ever been to the Dory Fleet?

Visit the north side of the Newport Beach Pier any day and find brave fishermen returning bright and early to sell the day's catch. This has been a daily event beginning in 1891 and continues today. Now I have been to the Newport Beach Pier but never early enough to catch this market in full swing. Amazing!

While the fresh fish are amazing my favorite story of the day was from Frank a long time fisherman of the Dory Fleet. Frank and his wife rescued a large pelican who had a fish hook lodged in his leg. Frank took time away from carving fish to order and gently captured the pelican while his wife removed the fish hook and went for first aid. Being a bird lover myself I was very happy to see that loving care.
